Six Scottish golf courses have been named in the top 10 best courses across Great Britain and Ireland, including several of our favourite partner clubs. The Golf Monthly leaderboard, compiled by golfing professionals and coaches, ranked the Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry as the top golfing experience across the islands in this year’s rankings. Ailsa is just one of the Private Tours Scotland’s package courses featured in the top five. Muirfield and The Old Course both earned their place in 2nd and 4th respectively, with next year’s Open Championship course, Carnoustie, taking 5th spot. Fellow Private Tours Scotland’s favourite Royal Dornoch also made the top ten of what was a great list for Scottish golf, with more than ten more courses finishing in the top 100. Royal Aberdeen, Castle Stuart (Cabot Highlands) and Royal Troon all made the top 20, while North Berwick, Nairn, Gleneagles and Prestwick made the top 50. It is no surprise that Scottish golf has once again punched above its weight as more innovative courses continue to be developed, with stunning improvements being made to some of country’s best known clubs. The Ailsa course thats sits on the Ayrshire coast is testament to that, with several holes receiving facelifts and extensions, creating one of the most impressive layouts in world golf. Naturally, the traditional greats of Muirfield and The Old Course, which were last year’s number one and three, have not been far displaced, but the ratings have shown how much of a difference fresh innovation can make. Other Private Tours Scotland favourites such as Cruden Bay and Blairgowrie proudly took their place in the top 100 list, in which Royal County Down and Royal Birkdale finished the highest non-Scottish courses.
